Fernando Ortiz

Environment & Knowledge Management

Mr. Ortiz joined NADBank in January 2014 and currently serves as Head of the Environment & Knowledge Management Unit. In this capacity, he leads the team responsible for implementing the Environmental and Social Risk Management Systems, monitoring the Results Measurement and Evaluation System for Bank projects and leading knowledge management initiatives.

Mr. Ortiz has more than 30 years of professional experience in environmental, water and solid waste issues, as well as public infrastructure planning. Prior to joining NADBank, he was a consultant to national and local governments in the planning and design of sustainable infrastructure projects for urban areas. With the Inter-American Development Bank, Mr. Ortiz worked on environmental projects in various countries in Central America. He has been a director and project manager in the planning and supervision of water and wastewater systems, water treatment, and waste collection and containment, both in Mexico and the U.S., for various national and international engineering and consulting firms. He was the Research Coordinator at the Nuevo Leon State Water Institute, leading watershed studies developed with local universities (ITESM and UANL).

As part of his responsibilities at NADBank, he has been a key member of the team charged with updating the NADBank ESG ecosystem, including the development of the Sustainable Bond Framework and reporting on the thematic bonds issued by the Bank in the financial markets, the development of the Green Loan Program for financial intermediaries, and reporting the Bank’s climate investments to the OECD, among other efforts to align the Bank to new global green and climate finance standards.

Mr. Ortiz holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM), as well as a master’s degree in environmental engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. He has completed several postgraduate courses on business administration at the University of Texas in Arlington, on sustainable finances at the University of Cambridge, and on sustainable finances and risk analysis at ITAM, as well as the accelerated Chief Sustainability Officer executive program sponsored by IDB. He holds professional certifications in Quality and Operational Optimization (Lean Six Sigma), Project Management Professional (PMP) and Risk Management Professional (PMI-RMP).
