For most municipal water utilities in Mexico, electricity costs represent between 20% and 40% of total operating costs and thus have a significant impact on their financial health. This seminar highlighted the potential impacts of inefficient utility operations, the main sources of energy consumption and losses in water operations, and opportunities for reducing energy consumption by upgrading equipment, properly maintaining infrastructure and installing renewable sources. The presenters also explained the methodology and benefits of performing energy audits, available financing opportunities for carrying out energy efficiency projects and the potential impact of energy efficiency measures on the finances of water utilities.
