Tecate, Baja California – The North American Development Bank (NADB) is participating in the first Green Power Generation Forum that is being held today in Tecate, Baja California.
Sponsored by Business Conexión, this forum is bringing together key stakeholders in the energy sector in the California/Baja California mega-region and is intended to connect companies and fuel potential partnerships for the development of energy projects in Baja California.
NADB Deputy Managing Director Alex Hinojosa will be a panelist on “Leadership in Financing Energy Projects,” where he will report on the role NADB plays in developing and financing renewable energy projects in the U.S.-Mexico border region and will present the first binational wind project, “Sierra Juárez Energía 1,” which is operating in Tecate and exporting electricity to San Diego County, California.
In the renewable energy sector, to date, NADB has approved $1.24 billion in loans to support 29 projects with an estimated generation capacity of 1,762 megawatts (MW). Of these projects, 11 are located in Mexico and, upon completion, are expected to generate up to 5.1 million megawatthours of electricity a year.
“NADB played a significant role in the development of the first renewable energy projects on the northern border of Mexico under the self-supply scheme,” stated Mr. Hinojosa. “Our past experience of green energy projects in the U.S. has been key to promoting wind energy projects in Baja California, Tamaulipas, Nuevo Leon and, more recently, in Coahuila, as well as a solar project in Chihuahua.”
